What you will do as a Data Engineer at Starred

Your primary responsibility will be a big one: you'll be responsible for Starred's data platform, used both for internal and external insights. Not only will you need to make sure this remains as scalable as the rest of the business, but you'll also need to help grow the platform by creating new data pipelines. You'll play a key role in enabling data analysts to provide actionable insights to customers as well as help data scientists roll out machine learning models.

Your Main Challenges

  • Build a robust and scalable data foundation enabling customer insights and advanced analytics.
  • Design, implement, and continuously expand ELT/ETL processes from a wide variety of data sources.
  • Ensure the best user experience by optimising query performance.
  • Roll out Machine Learning algorithms to production.

Your Profile

  • Experience working with AWS (especially S3 , EMR, PostgreSQL, Airflow, RDS, Glue and Lambda)

  • Experience querying data from databases using SQL

  • Experience working with big data technologies – Spark

  • Experience programming using Python


Nice to have

  • Knowledge of and experience with Docker (Compose)

  • Knowledge of and experience with AWS ECS or Kubernetes is a plus

  • Knowledge of and experience with column-oriented data storage formats (ORC, Parquet) or Presto/Athena is a plus
  • Machine learning knowledge
  • Experience working with BI tools (Looker / Domo / Tableau etc.)
  • Comfortable with DevOps and CI/CD process with tools like Jenkins/AWS CodePipeline and AWS CloudFormation (Infrastructure as code)
  • Experience with streaming technologies like Kafka or Kinesis
